Grant Hill & FILA
Young fans today probably have not heard of Grant Hill. They may know him as an NBA commentator, but do they remember him as an NBA star? They might not know that if it was not for injuries, Grant Hill could potentially be in the current GOAT conversation.
College Ball
Grant Hill played college basketball for one of the most historic college institutions, Duke University. He was an all-around talent that could do pretty much everything on the basketball court. He could score, pass, and defend. Playing for Duke, he also learned how to win. He was a part of two national championship teams.
NBA Ball
In the 1994 NBA Draft Grant Hill was taken with the third pick. The expectations were high. He had the talent, charm, and good looks to make a real mark on the court and off it. Grant Hill proved in his rookie year he could play professional basketball at a high level. He also proved he was a fan favorite and that he could make his mark as an endorser.
FILA
In the 1990s, FILA was an important sneaker brand. It was a popular casual sneaker maker, but the brand wanted a spot in basketball sneaker market. FILA felt strongly that Hill was the player they needed to allow then to compete with names like Nike, adidas, Reebok, and more.
The impact was quick, the Grant Hill 1 was a success. It appealed to sneaker fans everywhere. The FILA Grant Hill partnership would prove to be a strong one.
Legacy
Injuries hurt the career of Grant Hill. He was never able to reach the career heights everyone thought he would. Injuries would also hurt his impact as a signature sneaker athlete. While the mark the FILA x Grant Hill left is notable, they did not reach the heights of other iconic signature lines.
